Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore - Robin Sloan Mr. Penumbra starts so well. It has a standard plot - young protagonist coming to work in a strange store that has even stranger customers - but with a refreshing take, main protagonist being a tech savvy designer with programming skills. It has a nice setting - bookstore, for all us in love with reading it is almost as a sniff of new drug to an addict. It has a funny remarks, at least in the first twenty pages or so.
Unfortunately, after such a good start, everything feels contrived, characters are uninspiring, there are no thrills in right moments and the glorification of Google is just boring, to say the least, which made the disappointment even bigger.
